Leisure

It is easy to enjoy yourself in Tenerife, both by day and by night and whatever your age. The range of leisure activities covers scientific and natural interests, with visits to the Botanical Gardens and Loro Parque in the north, or the colony of pilot whales in the waters of the south, to the fun of Siam water park and other attractions, including sporting activities like trekking, with an extensive network of sign-posted trails. The nights of Tenerife are especially pleasant, thanks to the mild climate. Casinos to try your luck in an elegant setting like the Puerto de la Cruz Casino, restaurants, night clubs with international shows, discotheques and pubs with live music, and these are just some of the options available to visitors each night.

Siam Park, the water kingdom, opened its doors in 2008 as the most spectacular theme park with water attractions in Europe and will amaze everyone with its spectacular attractions.
Siam Park is completely unique and brand new for 2008! The most up to date technology has been used to develop the thrilling attractions, offering adventure, excitement and plenty of adrenalin. This combined with the exotic settings and exquisite oriental design of the ancient kingdom of Thailand.
The Lost City packed full of fun will entice the youngest ones to play in their very own water-adventure world. Those who are a little older can experience unique rides such as “The Giant” where the force of the centrifuge spins them round and round in a powerful twin cyclone. They can test their speed in the “Naga Racer”, plunge down the “Mekong Rapids” in a family sized raft and there’s the gravity-defying experience as you head towards the jaws of “The Dragon”! Strictly for the more adventurous is “The Tower of Power” with a breath-taking 28m drop and a heart stopping finale, or the “Volcano” where the darkness envelops you as the speed builds up and the spectacular laser show is revealed. The crystal clear waters of the “Sawasdee River” with its exotic islands and cascading waterfalls make it the perfect setting for visitors to relax and enjoy. A stunning white sandy beach and enormous “Wave Palace” will be a favourite with the surfers. And for those who want to learn, Siam Park has its own surf school.
Siam Park is also an ideal venue for celebrating special occasions like birthdays, company parties and private events. Its sheer scale means that groups of several thousand people can be hosted, like after hours beach barbecues. There is an anfitheatre that seats 1500 people, 5 bars and restaurants including one featuring Thai specialities and one directly situated on the beach. The tropical islands are ideal for smaller groups and VIP luxury cabanas come equipped with minibars, WIFI etc and “fast pass” entrance to all the attractions of the park for a real exclusive day out.

Loro Parque opened its doors for the first time in 1972. Located in Puerto de la Cruz, the park is set in 135,000 m2 of parkland and is a delight to young and old alike. The park soon became famous for its collection of parrots, the largest in the world. In 1994, the Loro Parque Foundation was also established for the purpose of protecting endangered birds. This subtropical park is home to a great variety of species, living in enclosures that closely represent their natural habitats. These species include tigers, gorillas, alligators, chimpanzees, pelicans, jaguars, flamingos, sea lions, Koi carps, Titi monkeys and even a Galapagos Giant tortoise.
One of the park’s star features is Europe’s largest dolphinarium and its amazing dolphin show. The Parrot Show, the first of its kind in Europe, takes place in an Arab-style marble palace. The sea-lion show is an opportunity to see how these intelligent mammals perform their tricks with incredible agility. The underwater world is also present at the marvellous aquarium where over 3,000 species co-exist, and where there is an impressive 18-metre-long shark tunnel.
Other attractions worthy of mention are Chimpland (created at Loro Parque in 1998), which is home to four adult chimpanzees and their young, and the glass cinema dome, where visitors can enjoy an unforgettable experience thanks to the advanced Showscan system and digital sound.
Planet Penguin was opened in December 1999 and is the world’s largest penguinarium. Thanks to the considerable technology involved in reconstructing their Antarctic habitat, 170 penguins from the South Pole live alongside tropical penguins and contentedly go about their lives in this enclosure, a perfect replica of their natural habitat.  Loro Parque has received several important national and international awards including the Prince of Asturias Award for Business Excellence, presented for the first time to a Canary Island business, and the Gold Medal for Importance to Tourism.
In June 2006, the new attraction Orca Ocean was inaugurated on the arrival of four orcas from the bred-in-captivity programme of Seaworld USA Group.
